Este periódico es la tercera entrega de Nada News y se titula «News from the future»

Esta edición publicada en abril de 2024 reúne dibujos realizados durante estos últimos dieciocho meses a partir de la lectura del libro de Rachel Carson «Primavera silenciosa». La primera edición de este ensayo científico es de 1960. En el libro la autora alerta del peligro que supone para las personas y el resto de los seres vivos del uso del DDT y otros compuestos químicos utilizados como herbicidas o biocidas en los campos y cultivos americanos.

En esta obra Rachel Carson nos demuestra con datos lo catastrófico del uso de estas sustancias. Su permanencia en el medio ambiente. Y la dificultad de reparar un entorno regado con estos productos químicos.

Toda esta información anuncia un futuro terrible para el entorno natural. Hoy, casi setenta años después, sabemos que sus predicciones eran ciertas y que si no cambiamos nuestro presente será muy fácil predecir un peor futuro para las próximas generaciones.

Cada página de este periódico es la reproducción de un dibujo original realizado a medida que leía «Primavera silenciosa». Es un proyecto que no está cerrado. Hay muchos aspectos todavía por dibujar y representar. Y también muchos desastres ecológicos por denunciar. Esta serie de imágenes que sugiere esta lectura es dramática. Estos dibujos no son un masaje optimista. Son un grito de alerta pero también un grito de espanto de nuestra incompetencia y falta de inteligencia.

Son noticias de un futuro que sabemos que llega.

This paper is the third issue of Nada News and is entitled «News from the future».

This edition published in April 2024 brings together drawings made during the last eighteen months based on the reading of Rachel Carson’s book «Silent Spring». The first edition of this scientific essay dates back to 1960. In the book, the author warns of the danger posed to people and other living beings by the use of DDT and other chemical compounds used as herbicides or biocides in American fields and crops.

In this book Rachel Carson shows us with data the catastrophic effects of the use of these substances. Their permanence in the environment. And the difficulty of repairing an environment watered with these chemicals.

All this information heralds a terrible future for the natural environment. Today, almost seventy years later, we know that his predictions were true and that if we do not change our present it will be very easy to predict a worse future for the next generations.

Each page of this newspaper is a reproduction of an original drawing made as I read «Silent Spring». It is a project that is not closed. There are still many aspects to be drawn and represented. And also many ecological disasters to denounce. This series of images suggested by this reading is dramatic. These drawings are not an optimistic massage. They are a cry of alert but also a cry of horror at our incompetence and lack of intelligence.

They are news of a future that we know is coming.
